Q: Please introduce yourself and tell us about your studies, research, and/or interests in epidemiology

A: My name is Vu Manh Cuong, and I am from Vietnam. I am studying a PhD program in Epidemiology at the Department of Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University. My PhD research focuses on e-cigarette use and the evaluation of e-cigarette control scenarios. My research interests include behavioral health, non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes, communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, population health, health economics, and data science.

Q: Why did you choose PSU for your graduate studies in epidemiology?

A: The Department of Epidemiology provides a graduate international program in epidemiology with a rich learning environment with experienced faculty members actively engaged in global and regional research and public health initiatives.

Q: What are your future academic/career plans?

A: I intend to continue to advance my research skills in clinical studies, infectious and non-infectious diseases surveillance, health economics, and population health. I would also like to engage in teaching and mentorship to train the next generation of public health professionals and promote the importance of epidemiology in improving population health.

Q: In your opinion, how has the TUYF Scholarship contributed to your success during your studies?

A: TUYF scholarship plays a vital role in my studies. The scholarship provides financial support for students to dedicate to graduate study. Besides, the TUYF scholarship offers students opportunities to build networks to learn and work together.
